New Kenworth T680 with PACCAR MX Engine Provides Excellent Fuel Economy for Halvor Lines
Fleet Reports 7.2 mpg After Its T680 Surpasses 35,000 Miles
In business since 1968, Halvor Lines, Inc., Superior, Wis., serves customers across the United States and Canada. Founded by Bill Vinje, this family-owned business today operates 320 trucks and 850 trailers under the management team led by the late founder's son, Jon Vinje.
One of the premier carriers in North America, Halvor Lines continually invests in modern equipment technology and safety. With hundreds of late-model Kenworths in the fleet, the company was among the first to purchase a new Kenworth T680 earlier this year. Now with more than 35,000 miles on the truck, the company reports the T680 with 455-hp PACCAR MX engine is attaining an excellent 7.2 mpg.
Jon Vinje of Halvor Lines stands next to the company's Kenworth T680.
"We're very happy to have the T680 in our fleet," said Vinje, whose company strives to set equipment standards in the trucking industry. "It's doing a great job for us. Our T680 driver is very pleased with the ride, performance and stability of the vehicle."
Other drivers in the fleet are also taking note of the T680, said Vinje. "They like the styling, look, roomy comfort and extra width of the cab. I have heard a lot of positive comments from drivers about the quietness of both the cab and the PACCAR MX engine."
Halvor Lines has been running PACCAR MX engines since they were first introduced. "We're pleased with the fuel economy, and we've had good responses from the drivers regarding the engine's performance."
With an average length of haul at 675 miles, comfort, performance and reliability are critical. "Uptime is the key to our business," Vinje said. The Kenworth T680 with PACCAR MX engine offers a satisfying combination of reliable performance, superior fuel efficiency, exceptional styling and extraordinary driver comfort.
Kenworth's most aerodynamic truck to date, the T680's sculpted full-height roof and side extenders turn heads. Inside, the cab offers 65 percent more storage space, a 50 percent larger windshield, 40 percent less interior noise and 30 percent larger door openings, compared to the popular, aerodynamic Kenworth T660.
"We're very focused on the comfort of our drivers, and on the image that our trucks project in the industries we serve," Vinje said. "Kenworth is definitely looked upon as the premium truck by drivers and customers alike."
Operating a late-model fleet of Kenworths is an important factor in the company's success. Trucks are meticulously maintained. Every four years, or about 460,000 miles, trucks are traded for the newest Kenworth models. Said Vinje, "We've had great success with the high-end value at trade-in time with our Kenworth trucks. For fuel economy, reliability, image and driver comfort, Kenworth is the total package."
