New, Aerodynamic Kenworth T680 Earns Prestigious EPA SmartWay Designation
Kenworth Truck Company today announced that the new, aerodynamic Kenworth T680 model has received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWaySM Designation.
"Kenworth is proud that the Kenworth T680 has earned the prestigious EPA SmartWay Designation," said Gary Moore, Kenworth general manager and PACCAR vice president. "As our most aerodynamic truck ever, we look forward to providing customers with enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions with the new T680."
The Kenworth T680's sleek, aerodynamic body benefits from sculpted full-height roof, optimized bumper and hood, full-height side extenders, cab/sleeper-to-fairings closeout panels, chassis fairings extenders, and flush-mounted lighting.
The T680 is standard with the 12.9-liter PACCAR MX engine, which offers a range of 380-hp to 485-hp and torque up to 1,750 lb-ft. This power range, combined with excellent fuel efficiency, high reliability and durability, lightweight design, and low cost of ownership, makes the PACCAR MX engine an ideal choice for Kenworth customers operating in various applications, including over-the-road and pickup and delivery.
Kenworth's industry-leading, aerodynamic line-up now includes three on-highway vehicles with the valued EPA SmartWay Designation - the Kenworth T660, Kenworth T680 and Kenworth T700. In addition to the aerodynamic benefits, each model features a different cab width to provide customers with an excellent selection to meet their specific applications requirements. Cab width for the T660, T680 and T700, respectively, is 1.9, 2.1 and 2.3 meters.
EPA SmartWay Designated tractors are intended for use with 53-foot, box van trailers that are also EPA SmartWay Designated. According to the EPA, a SmartWay tractor-trailer combination may reduce fuel consumption by as much as 18 percent at highway speeds. Fleets in-use savings will vary based on their specific operations and environment.
Kenworth's fuel-savings technology solutions include liquefied and compressed natural gas vehicles, and medium duty diesel-electric hybrids. Kenworth is the only truck manufacturer to receive the EPA's Clean Air Excellence award in recognition of its environmentally friendly products.
The EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership (www.epa.gov/smartway) is an innovative, collaboration between the EPA and freight industry designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. To receive EPA SmartWay Designation, trucks must offer a full aerodynamic package, including integrated roof fairings, fuel tank side fairings, cab/sleeper side extenders, aerodynamic bumpers and aerodynamic mirrors, low rolling resistance tires, and options for reducing extended engine idling.
