Kenworth Green Truck Lineup To Take Center Stage at ACT Expo 2012
Kenworth Truck Company will showcase four alternative fuel trucks in its booth (#144) during the Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo May 15-17 at the Long Beach Convention Center in California.
ACT Expo is North America's leading alternative fuel and clean vehicle technologies show, according to show organizers. The exhibition brings together vehicle and engine manufacturers, fleet operators, infrastructure and fuel providers, Clean Cities coordinators, technology developers, and policymakers.
"The ACT Expo is an important opportunity to demonstrate Kenworth's continuing leadership and commitment to alternative fuel trucks, which are gaining increasing attention among on-highway, vocational and medium duty fleets and truck operators," said Michelle Harry, Kenworth powertrain marketing manager. "Kenworth's strong alternative fuel product line features compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and diesel-electric hybrids."
The ACT Expo's Technology Showcase session will spotlight efficiencies in new product offerings. Andy Douglas, Kenworth national sales manager for specialty markets, will discuss "Converging Forces: Low Fuel Prices, New Engine Technology and Expanding Infrastructure" as part of a panel focused on heavy duty trucking starting at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, May. 15.
Leading Kenworth's four-truck lineup at the ACT Expo is the new Kenworth T660 CNG truck equipped with the new Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy duty natural gas engine. Announced at the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show, the new configuration offers truck operators the benefits of the fuel-efficient T660 combined with low cost CNG or LNG fuel utilized by the ISX12 G engine. The Cummins Westport ISX12 G will offer a range of ratings to 400 hp and 1,450 ft-lbs. of torque, optional engine brake and manual and automatic transmission capability to meet customer needs. Kenworth also plans to make the ISX12 G available with the Kenworth T800 short hood and Kenworth W900S.
Kenworth's booth will feature a Kenworth T440 CNG mixer equipped with the 8.9-liter Cummins Westport ISL G engine. The T440 features excellent maneuverability, modern aerodynamic styling, and superior ergonomics. It is available as a straight truck or tractor in a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from a heavy Class 7 vehicle at 33,000 lbs. up to a light Class 8 truck at 68,000 lbs. The ISL G engine uses a maintenance- free, three-way catalyst and is 2010 EPA- and CARB-compliant without the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology or a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Rated at 320 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque, the engine's torque curve closely matches that of its diesel counterparts.
Kenworth will also exhibit a Kenworth T800 LNG tractor with a 15-liter Westport HD engine. The T800 LNG truck is a good choice for Class 8 applications, including regional haul, line haul, port and drayage with loads requiring more power and torque and an operating range of more than 400 miles. It can be ordered in a gross combination weight (GCW) of up to 80,000 lb. for over-the-road operation with additional ratings exceeding 100,000 lbs. available for certain applications.
For the T800, the HD engine is available in power ratings from 400 to 475 hp and torque ratings from 1,450 to 1,750 lb-ft. The T800 LNG configuration is available with a day cab, Kenworth Extended Day Cab or 38-inch Kenworth AeroCabĀ® sleeper.
Lastly, Kenworth will show a Kenworth T370 diesel-electric hybrid, which helps to enhance fuel economy by up to 30 percent in pickup and delivery applications and up to 50 percent in utility and service operations. Hybrids are especially of interest to fleets running local routes with a significant number of starts and stops, and to municipalities seeking to save on fuel and reduce their carbon footprint.
